There are 400 special forces soldiers stationed nearby in Europe, ready to respond to any incidents.
Dozens of personnel from the FBI, the State Department's Diplomatic Security Service and the Homeland Security Department are helping.
There will be armed U.S. air marshals aboard many commercial flights to and from Athens, according to one U.S. law enforcement official. This official, like many others contacted for this story, requested anonymity to respect diplomatic sensitivities.
