Caledonian University - Glasgow - 23rd April 2005 - - - In the wake of the Governments much hyped "Commission for Africa" came a reply - a conference not so much "for" Africa, as from Africans. There were excellent presentations and speeches by the usual suspects - Patrick Harvie, Tommy Sheridan, Aamer Anwar, representatives from Oxfam and G8 alternatives - but the most succesful aspect to the conference, what made it really striking, was the African speakers.

Police Support Staff to Strike?

999 call handlers, fingerprint & forensic experts needed for crime scene investivgation may ballot for strike action over the weekend of Make Poverty History if a pay dispute is not resolved. "The pay dispute affects more than 3000 support staff across Scotland. They had wanted to see a rise of six per cent this year and five per cent in 2006, after several years of low increases. But they have been offered a rise of just 2.95 per cent this year with another 2.5 per cent increase in 2006."
