Icelandic Consulate Targeted by Activists

On the morning of 20th July, the Icelandic Consulate on Queen St, Edinburgh was targeted by members of Saving Iceland (1). Paint was thrown on the building, the lock was glued and a message was affixed to the exterior reading “The Whole World is Watching”. “Iceland Bleeds” was also painted on the steps.
The action served as response to recent acts of police brutality against Saving Iceland activists in Reykjavik who continue to oppose the assault on the Icelandic wilderness by heavy industry [ report].

Dawn Raid and Arrests in Sighthill

The Home Office attempted a dawn raid on a flat in the Sighthill district of Glasgow on Wednesday morning. Their target wasn't home but 4 people were detained.
An anti-deportation campaign has also been initiated for Funke and Joseph from Nigeria, who have been detained last Monday during a visit at the Home Office Reporting Centre in Glasgow.

Ankara: 87 people imprisoned

Members of the Front for Rights and Freedoms (HOC), wanted to march in front of parliament on July 16, but hundreds of activists were beaten up and 154 detained. 27 of those who were detained were released yeserday because they were under 18 years of age. Today 43 women who were detained were released after they were brought before a state prosecutor.

£1Billion to Improve Image of "Wealth Creation"

Sir Tom Hunter, who made his fortune selling clothes made in sweatshops, is to put a billion quid into his charitable foundation. The announcement comes at a time of increased scrutiny of private equity firms' and their vast profiteering. It's the day after a city banker produced his plans for improving the image of the sector. Not by paying tax or stopping asset stripping but by better PR. Maybe it's a coincidence…..

Aus dem Rundbrief, den er an fast alle freien und parteilichen Naziwebseiten geschickt hat, wird klar, dass er trotz aller Niederlagen in Leipzig und der Verlegung seiner 1.Mai Demo 2007 immer noch an dem Konzept der „Demos durch Leipzig“ festhält.
