Council sets up new group to axe Edinburgh's schools

The city council have set up a cross-party group to decide which Edinburgh schools will be closed. The group, which apparently includes some token parents and teachers, was set up by the council last month, and has its first meeting on the 10th of January. They will propose a new list of schools to be axed.

Phase 2 of the EU carbon-trading scheme comes into effect now. There will be a tightening of the rules, a decrease in the number of pollution permits but big polluters will be receiving those permits for free. In effect his means massive handouts for small actions when they sell their surplus permits.
