Navy Recruiters Kicked Off Strathclyde University Campus

Strathclyde student newspaper the Telegraph reports that a Navy recruitment team packed up their stall after a protest at the Union on John Street.

Grangemouth Workers Strike

Today sees the start of a 48 hour strike by workers at the Ineos oil refinery in Grangemouth, Central Scotland. Members of the Unite Union have staged the walk out in response to the companies discontinuation of their pension scheme, leaving workers with an uncertain future. Grangemouth produces %10 of the UK’s petrol and diesel. The strike will also cause the shutting of the Forties pipe-line, which supplies much of the UK’s fossil-fuels, including the fifth of Britain’s gas.

Downsized Meadowbank 'not suitable' for top competitions

SPORTS groups have warned that downsizing Meadowbank Stadium may mean it is no longer suitable for serious competitions. The city council plans to replace the ageing stadium with a smaller community sports centre, and sell part of the land for housing.

Parents fight to save four schools

PARENTS at the first four city primary schools to be threatened with closure are set to join forces to campaign against the axe.
It is understood the four meet all the criteria for potential closure – including poor attainment, falling rolls and high running costs. Last September, the council ditched a plan to close 22 schools and four community centres.

No Border Camp Turkish Coast 2008

This August there will be a no border camp on the west coast of turkey very near to the coast of Greece. It is a famous crossing point for migrants trying to get into the European Union.

Larissa, Central Greece: IKA squat evicted and demolished
