Lothian and Borders Police Harass a Peaceful Protest

Five members of the Edinburgh Clown Army (1) were detained for questioning this afternoon at a peaceful and entertaining biofuels protest in Bruntsfield(2). They have since been arrested and charged with a breach of the peace, despite maintaining a friendly atmosphere.

Protesters against biofuels dropped a banner at Charing Cross today, to draw attention to the use of food to make petrol.

Green light for (even) higher bus fares

The Competition Commission is to change the cap on First Bus's fare-raising abilities. What? You didn't realise that there was such a cap, given that it costs you more than a pound to go less than a mile? Silly rabbit. How much will the increase be? "The new undertakings imposed on FirstBus include allowing fares to increase by no more than a hybrid index using fuel costs from Scotland and other costs from the UK transport index."

Biofuels protesters disable fuel pumps

Agro-fuels protesters disabled the fuel pumps of two BP filling stations early this morning in opposition to mandatory blending of biofuels into petrol and diesel. Protesters argue that biofuels will worsen climate change, and cause food shortages.

Plane Stupid Scotland Scale Parliament in Aviation Protest

Plane Stupid Scotland scaled the Scottish Parliament building today, in an early morning protest at Scottish Government plans to impose massive airport expansion by the back door. At 2pm the protesters voluntarily walked off the building, were arrested and taken to St. Leonards police station.

Six protesters have been arrested after a demonstration at an electronics firm in Fife. Raytheon Systems, which is based in Glenrothes, specialises in technology relating to defence and national security.
