The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) stepped-up attacks on foreign oil companies and declared the launch of "Hurricance Barbarossa" at the weekend. They attacked a Chevron facility; 22 Nigerian soldiers were killed and flow stations & oil pipelines destroyed.
