More School Protests in Glasgow

the battle continues!

Our lady of assumption school, bisland road in ruchill has been occuppied by parents today...

and in Govanhill, victoria primary.. parents are chained to railings.

they need support. call radio stations, letters to papers and protest on thursday at noon at the city chambers!

edit to add - 1930pm

The parents chained to the outside and some inside of victoria primary, govanhill, are going to end their action at around 8pm this evening.

It is only ending to avoid disruption of the childrens education by having them taken by bus away from the school tommorow. Complete bully tactics by the council, shameful stuff. Their protest outside would not have caused any disruption to the education of the kids. More like the council dont want this sort of action "seen" in the community....

the local councillor, anne-marie millar, funnily enough lives only yards from the protest and the school in question. No surprise that she has not shown her face.. some parents showed their displeasure there on friday night prior to taking this action today.

Five years and counting; new charity offers last chance for the Scottish Wildcat.

A new charity, the Scottish Wildcat Association, has been launched to champion the cause of Britain’s rarest mammal and last wild feline, amid fears that with less than 400 left in the wild extinction could be just 5 years away.

School occupations end, with Glasgow council "snatch" threat

Parents have ended their occupation of Wyndford and St Gregorys Primary, after Glasgow City Council threatens to "snatch" children, placing them on buses to take them to another school, against the parents wishes.

Extensive Children and Family Centre?

Evening Times 15th April 2009:

Of the decision to close Wyndford and St Gregory’s primaries, Mr Purcell said: “In Wyndford, community education will be coming forward with a proposal to turn the existing nursery school into an extensive children and family centre. This will provide first class nursery education and also improve access to childcare facilities and after school activities for older children.

“It has become clear during the consultation that there are a whole number of reasons why people in Wyndford feel their community is being let down.

“I have asked deputy council leader Jim Coleman to lead a special team of council officials who will work with parents and other community activists to improve the whole Wyndford estate.

“The schools will close, but I would invite parents to work with us in the development of the new children and family centre to make sure what we plan for the area is something driven by their needs.

Was that statement made in good faith?

The nursery is a very small one storey building surrounded by Cube Housing Association land.
