SUMMARY:Picket Against UBS for victimising cleaners
DESCRIPTION:
There is an international day of action against the Union Bank of Switzerland to support cleaners in London who are having their wages cut\, and who have had their shop steward sacked for the crime of organising.

This is the latest in a long line of efforts by UBS to victimise their cleaners for organising for a living wage. These workers have been part of the excellent Justice For Cleaners campaign. UBS has offices in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh call-out\:

Friday 19th March is the international day of action against UBS\, demanding the reinstatement of sacked shop steward Alberto Durango and the reversal of cuts in cleaners' conditions by contractor Lancaster.
Protests are planned for the USA\, Sweden\, Switzerland and around the UK. There has been regular leafletting outside UBS offices\, let's keep up the pressure and build solidarity with these exploited migrant workers.
The Edinburgh protest will kick off from 1 PM outside the UBS offices at <a href=\\"http\://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&amp\;source=s_q&amp\;hl=en&amp\;q=8+Wemyss+Pl\,+Edinburgh\,+City+of+Edinburgh+EH3+6\,+United+Kingdom&amp\;sll=37.0625\,-95.677068&amp\;sspn=38.502405\,79.013672&amp\;ie=UTF8&amp\;cd=1&amp\;geocode=FWrLVQMdcxXP_w&amp\;split=0&amp\;hq=&amp\;hnear=8+Wemyss+Pl\,+Edinburgh\,+City+of+Edinburgh+EH3+6\,+United+Kingdom&amp\;z=16\\">6-8 Weymss Place in the centre of town. SUMMARY:Picket at SPUC Pro-Life Conference
DESCRIPTION:
Anti-abortion nutjobs the SPUC (Scottish Society for the Protection of Unborn Children) are holding their &ldquo\;International Youth Pro-Life Conference&rdquo\; on the 19-21 March in Clydebank.

We&rsquo\;ve fought the racists and fascists on the streets of Glasgow and Edinburgh -- now it&rsquo\;s time to fight the woman-haters!

The SPUC not only want to stop women getting abortions -- they&rsquo\;re also against condoms\, the pill\, and sex education.

A woman&rsquo\;s right to control her body is a fundamental human right. Women should have total control over their reproductive system\, being able to make free and informed decisions about how they live. Every undermining of a woman&rsquo\;s right to choose whether\, when and how to have children is an attack on all women.

Every day\, 200 women die because they can&rsquo\;t access a safe\, legal abortion.

After the general election in May there&rsquo\;s the very real prospect that abortion rights will come under heavy attack. Tory MPs want to make it more and more difficult for women to access abortion. If enough of them are elected there could be a majority in the Westminster parliament for gradually taking women&rsquo\;s rights to control their own bodies away piece by piece. That means we need to get organised now\, and start undermining the ability of anti-abortionists to meet and organise against women. Just as we do with racists\, we also need to do with misogynists.

Women&rsquo\;s abortion rights need to be defended.

FUCK THE&nbsp\;SPUC!
SUMMARY:Without fear or favour\: a voice for rape survivors in the criminal justice system?
DESCRIPTION:
9.30am - 4.30pm 26th March 2010
Radisson Hotel\, 301 Argyle Street\, Glasgow G2 8DL

The past decade has seen significant concern about the ability of the Scottish criminal justice system to provide justice to rape survivors. The conviction rate for rape continues to be particularly low in Scotland\, with the most recent figures suggesting only 3.7% of rapes reported to the police result in a conviction. Rape survivors continue to speak of harrowing ordeals when giving evidence in court.

This FREE conference &ndash\; organised by Rape Crisis Scotland &amp\; the Equality &amp\; Human Rights Commission Scotland - provides a timely opportunity to consider whether a new and radical approach is required to improve access to justice following rape.

A full conference programme and booking form will be circulated but if you would like to register your interest just now please email <a href=\\"mailto\:julie.scobbie@rapecrisisscotland.org.uk\\">julie.scobbie@rapecrisisscotland.org.uk
