Cre8 Summit Film - Glasgow - Reclaiming Community (Day 1)

Over the weekend of the 11th and 12th of June the Cre8 Summit community initiative has taken back an area of land in Glasgow left derelict by the planners, transforming it into a community space.

Free Jeff Luers Solidarity Action in Edinburgh on Sunday

On the night of June 12th in Edinburgh there was a benefit gig for Jeff Free Luers that ended with a confrontation in front of the American consulate.

International Networking Meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece

"We don't want to be what we are now; we want to be what we want to become!"

From 20th till 22nd of May 2005 the Antiauthoritarian Movement (Assembly of Salonica), Greece hosted the International Networking Meeting in Thessaloniki to spark off Dissent against the G8.

Privatising the BBC

85% of BBC workers in Glasgow walked out on 23rd May, as part of a UK-wide strike. Management aims to privatise public broadcasting were dealt a blow, but the issues are still unresolved. "Voices from Africa" Conference

Caledonian University - Glasgow - 23rd April 2005 - - - In the wake of the Governments much hyped "Commission for Africa" came a reply - a conference not so much "for" Africa, as from Africans. There were excellent presentations and speeches by the usual suspects - Patrick Harvie, Tommy Sheridan, Aamer Anwar, representatives from Oxfam and G8 alternatives - but the most succesful aspect to the conference, what made it really striking, was the African speakers.

Pagans celebrate new season at Beltane

After years of struggles to keep the Beltane Fire Festival on top of Calton Hill in Edinburgh, Beltane celebrations took once again place under offical restrictions, such as time restriction to 1 am, no bottles, nor waxtorches nor loud drums or instruments and official entry fee of Â£3-5 instead of donations.
Netherteless at least 8500 witnessed and enjoyed the celebrations according to official ticket sales.

Glasgow Mayday Carneval supported by Clown Army

This year's Glasgow Mayday Carnival was quite relaxed and fluffy for the majority of about a hundred to two hundred participants. Three soundsystems and a clown army invited the demonstrators to dance and celebrate International Workers Day. The forthcoming G8 summit cast a shadow in the form of stricter and more nervous policing, including the never before seen use of 8 policehorses, and at least 3 police camera teams.
The street party lasted from about 1pm till 4pm. It left from Buchanan St Underground station and proceeded west towards Kelvingrove Park, on an almost identical route to last year. The $hell garage on Woodlands Road didn't want to join the party and shut itself down for about 2 hours around the time of the demo. Three people were unnecessarily arrested in the final minutes of the "street" party, when entering the park and continuing as a "park" party under the mostly cloudy grey but not rainy West Coast sky.
The Camcorder Guerillas successfully premiered their new video "Why close the G8" in front of a huge proactive audience after the street party.
