Housing Benefit Disgrace

Shocking delays in the payment of Housing Benefit in Scotland are revealed by new government figures. Claimants making a new claim face an average wait of 80 days in East Dunbartonshire, 79 days in Dundee, 78 days in Edinburgh, with long delays in other areas too. This causes hardship, stress and sometimes even eviction.

"This is unacceptable. Councils have a legal duty to pay Housing Benefit two weeks after receiving the information they need from the claimant. Let's insist on this right and force Councils to pay up on time," say Edinburgh Claimants.
