In a significant victory for anti cuts activists in Glasgow today, charges against supporters of the Glasgow Defence Campaign and the Free Hetherington were dropped before they went before a judge at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Daily Mail Glasgow offices invaded by Anti-Benefit Cuts Protesters

This afternoon around 15 Anti-Benefit Cuts held a leafleting session outside the Atos assessment centre in Cadogan Street, Glasgow advising other claimants on how to deal with benefits medical examinations. It was part of the 3rd National Day of Protest Against Benefit Cuts being held in at least a dozen cities around Britian organised by a network of claimants' groups.

URGENT: Police arrest third person in Glasgow for 9 December protests!

The Glasgow Defence Campaign has just learned that in the last 30 minutes, a young student, Aiden Turner, already facing charges from the violent eviction of the Free Hetherington, has been arrested by police in relation to protests in Glasgow on 9 December 2010. As far as we are aware, he is being held in Baird Street police station - we call on everyone to phone up to inquire as to his safety and to demand his release. Let Strathclyde police know that an injury to one is an injury to all.

Huge demo in London against Cut-backs

Around half a million people demonstrated in central London on 26th March against the ConDem government’s cut-backs.  Thousands took direct action against corporate targets. A demonstrator told Indymedia Scotland:  “We succeeded in our aim of taking over significant areas of central London. Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Circus and Trafalgar Square were all controlled by demonstrators for a good part of the day.”
