The on-going battle over open cast coal in the Douglas Valley has had a shocking development, with South Lanarkshire Council issuing each member of the Douglas and Glespin Community Council with legal notices that proceedings against them are to begin at Lanark Sheriff Court over alleged libel claims. This move is seen by the community as an attack on their freedom of speech.
This is one person's reactions to and reflections on Climate Camp 2010, intended to provide analysis, provoke discussion, and express love for the movement. I'm joining in the friendly-but-critical discussion that's been kicking off in the activist blogosphere (here, here and here), and I'm delighted to see us moving on from the liberal-vs-radical debates of last year to something more practical. There is always space for criticism, for reflection, and for moving forward.
People resisting climate change closed down the Royal Bank of Scotland's Global HQ at Gogarburn near Edinburgh and took direct action at numerous sites throughout Edinburgh today 23rd August.

The Camp for Climate Action comes to Edinburgh this week, for four days of training and direct action. This year they are targeting the Royal Bank of Scotland. During the camp Coal Action Scotland are organising a trip to Cousland, Growing Resistance.
Investigative journalist Charles Atangana first came to Scotland 6 years ago as an asylum seeker from Cameroon where he, like many other Cameroonian journalists critical of the regime has been persecuted, jailed, tortured. Well known journalist Bibi Ngota died in prison this year.
On 2nd July 2010 tens of thousands of copies of a spoof newspaper that looked very similar to The Metro, a free daily, were distributed at 20 busy tube stations around the London during rush hour. Thousands more were distributed in other cities around the UK.
Yesterday afternoon the Edinburgh Critical Mass congregated at the Mound and set off onto the city streets, sound system in tow. The mass had a great cycle around town for over an hour, with motorists up to their usual tricks, and a lively, upbeat atmosphere from the riders.
Protesters against compulsory “work-for-your-benefits” schemes succeeded in shutting down A4e’s Edinburgh office today Wednesday 16th June. A4e cancelled all appointments and stuck up a notice declaring their Earl Grey Street office closed for the whole day, as demonstrators gathered outside.
