Third Dawn Raid in Glasgow in a month

Tracy and Ericka Andrew were detained this morning at their home in Maryhill.Tracy is from Nigeria and arrived in the UK in May 2004. She was only 22 and 7 months pregnant. She had fled Nigeria because of problems with her Christian parents following her relationship with a Muslim man. The man's parents were also angry about him having a relationship with a Christian women. When she arrived in the UK, Tracy was very young and did not know about the strict rules about claiming asylum. In the street after only four days in the UK, she met a man who persuaded her to try and get to Canada with a false passport. Tracy was arrested at the airport trying to leave the UK and was sent to prison for two months. After her arrest Tracy claimed asylum and four days after her release from prison she gave birth to her daughter Ericka. Since then Tracy and three and a half year old Ericka have made a brand new life for themselves in Glasgow. She is currently in her second year studying for an HNC in Healthcare and her tutors say she is a confident and hard-working student. Her local CHurch Minister has said that she has been exceptionally enthusiastic at worship and has readily and naturally made many friends in the congregation. Tracy is the second family we know about who have been detained in a dawn raid who have been refused Leave to Remain under the "Case Resolution"/"Legacy Review" and this is the third dawn raid in one month. Tracy was refused Leave to Remain under the Legacy because of her criminal record. The Home Office have accepted that she has made a family lif e for herself and Ericka in Scotland but say that her stupid mistake when she was young, and scared about having a baby in a foreign country, "shows poor conduct" and therefore she doesn't qualify for the legacy. We are waiting to get in touch with Tracy to find out what is happening with her. We'll send out more informaion when we get it...
