Videos on Indymedia Scotland

Videos on Indymedia Scotland

Do we want to have the ability to post videos on Indymedia Scotland?

There is a module that can do this, converting them into flash videos that display inline on the article:

http://drupal.org/project/flashvideo

For this to work we need a server that has ffmpeg (software that converts the videos). Our current hosting is not capable of this.

Sounds like a good idea to me!

Re: Videos on Indymedia Scotland

Bit annoying that it would require a change of hosting, though. Would an easier first step be the ability to import / embed videos from RSS feeds in the same way that we're now doing for some text sources?

For example, SnapperGumbo's videos at YouTube cover the sort of stuff we'd be interested in showing. If we could have embedded some of those in the page rather than just linking, that would've been a big improvement in our school closure protests coverage.

Ultimately, yes, I want us to host / play videos on site but I think we should go for the easy gains first.

piece of piss to do using a combination of the emfield, feedapi and feedapi_mapper modules

Having the emfield module activated for all articles would be a nice start

I can show you to get this running any time

flashvideo would be a lot nicer though :)

Uhhhhhhh my codecs hurt - wouldn't the method you mention above be pulling in flashvideo embedded from out of the Youtube feed?

Re: Videos on Indymedia Scotland

Politube (http://politube.org/) is a good alternative to youtube. They dont take the copyright of uploaded material for one thing.

I just had a look on IMC Ireland and they have a good thing where an embeded video isnt loaded unless you choose to allow it on a video by video basis.

Emfield module ( www.drupal.org/projects/emfield ) allows you to embed videos from a provider (youtube etc.) by simply typing in the url of the video

Flashvideo module ( www.drupal.org/projects/emfield )would provide a space for people to upload videos directly to the Indymedia Site which are then converted to flash and put in a player to play on the website ( which would require moving to a different host though )

So both very different

There is work being done on creating a media module which will incorporate both in one module  but notthing to stop us having both side by side.

I just think it would be nicer to be able to upload videos direct to this site
