Selex arms company attacked

This is the Fuck the War Coalition and we are bringing the war home to those who profit from imperialism. This morning we broke 10 windows on the Selex Galileo building.

A spokesperson said "Corporations like Selex Galileo play a vital role in the military industrial complex. They have the blood of the innocent Afghani, Iraqi and Palestinian people who suffer at the hands of the capitalist system."

Another added "The war in Afghanistan has nothing to do with democracy, women's rights, opium or the war on terror. Its about oil pipelines, making money for big corporations, and establishing permanent military bases near China, India and Pakistan.

"Working class people from Scotland are joining the Army and getting killed in Afghanistan so that the bosses and shareholders of companies like Selex and BP can make more money."

NOTES

The Fuck The War Coalition does not exist, but is merely a name used by those taking action against the war machine. Property destruction and other acts of direct action have been claimed by the FTWC across the UK for the last two and a half years and will continue until global militarism has ceased. FTWC have attacked army recruitment centres, arms factories, and the American consulates and embassies.

Re: Selex arms company attacked

Exactly how many members are in this "coalition" of yours? Sounds like mindless vandalism to me.

Re: Selex arms company attacked

mindless!!!?!

mindless is a war on the other side of the world that people from your comunity are dyeing in for reasons no body is sure about apart from the few men who profit from it

mindless is marching in the streets once a year to releve you from your stuphid guilt

mindless is critising young people for acting ageinst somthing they see as wrong

and mindless is sitting at home on your computer thinking that if only everyone thought like you did everythnig would be ok.

i know indymedia's for everyone but i think theres like 5 grumpy old men that need to get bared as they make the same stuphid comments every week whilst doing nothing them selves. i dont usually get into these comment battles as my time is spent doing things in the real world but i am sooo sick of these pricks belittering things they will never have the confidence or guts to do...... go bug some one else or better yet get off your pc and do somthing positive

Re: Selex arms company attacked

Comment #1 on the Evening News article, along with being halarious, implies that there has been at least some reduction in the amount of work done at the factory.

So vandalism is the answer to all the problems on the world is it?

rather than carrying out acts of mindless vandalism can I suggest you attend an english night class as your attempts at grammar and spelling are laughable.

as for your rationale for attacking the Selex Galileo premises can I suggest you find out what is actually carried out on that particular site.

Just remember the Defence business has been paying for you work shy scroungers benefits since the 1950's.

"Just remember the Defence business has been paying for you work shy scroungers benefits since the 1950's."

Actually the amount of subsidisation the arms industry recieves from government taxs is far more per person employed in the industry than the average spent on a person on the dole.

What is it you do on that site? Are the model fighter jets just for fun? Is it run by a different SELEX Galileo that makes nice civilian things and not targeting systems for weapons, as this website says? Come off it. Who are you trying to kid.

Oh, and "english night class" should be spelt with a capital E, clever cloggs.

"taxs" should read taxes so that'll be 1-1, although I would dispute english needs a capital letter whereas you just can't spell.

Subsidisation from the government ?, not since the government sold their shares in the groups. The "cost plus" contract days ended in the late 1980's so try and keep up. If the defence companies have no contracts the employees lose their jobs there is no safety net from the government. Please also remember as defence work decreases the work given to sub-contractors is reduced in kind.

The defence industry makes a lot of money for this country and the government gets a share of this in the form of taxes. You may argue by smashing windows glaziers are being kept in business but it's hardly on the same scale.

What is done on the site? yes there are defence products however, like it or not this is generally the area where technological advances come from. We also supply radar products to various coastguard organisations and the last time I looked they attempted to rescue people rather than blow them up. Selex also develop countermeasures which are actually used to deflect missiles, these may actually have a civilian use as, believe it or not, despite you waging war on the defence companies in this country terrorist organisations wouldn't bat an eyelid over blowing you out the sky.

I find this quite an interesting site and funnily enough as well as having links to the defence industry  I also have connections in the opencast coal industry which also appears to make headlines on here.

Here's a question to finish is it the same unemployable, no-marks who carry out the vandalism in these different areas ? (and by vandalism I also include smearing machinery with human excrement as was carried out at Mainshill Wood, what a classy bunch)

The Daily Mail is the best paper we have in Britian and we should be spending money on defence!

Ok, correct me if I go wrong anywhere. You make radars, sensors, and electronic countermeasures..... but they fitted into apache helecopters, harrier jump jets, artillery and eurofighters. You are making some of the essential parts of very deadly weapons.

But I really dont blame you for trying to make a living, looking after your family. You are just doing what most people would do in your circumstances.

Have you heard of the Lucas Aerospace plan? The workers of this arms company (making missles and jets) in the 70's struggled against closure and for a change in their work from weapons manufacture to socially useful production. The workers came up with an alternative business plan - very well budgeted and planned. Ultimately though, the Labour Party fucked them over, cos they would rather arms companies made arms, rather than kidney dialysis machines, and artificial limbs, solar panels, wind turbines like Lucas workers proposed. Im sure your workplace could be changed to produce socially useful technology. Some food for thought anyway.

Arms companies: rubbish at job creation

It's worse than when the state owned the arms business. Now, instead of money moving from one government department to another and paying for jobs in the UK, we have money moving from me to the government to arms companies and their shareholders.

If this site is too pinko for you, try this analysis:

The Register

Despite huge government support - the great bulk of the £15bn annual defence-materiel budget goes to UK industry, every deal is underwritten by government, even bribery is handled via MoD accounts controlled by nominal MoD employees - resulting manufacturing exports amount to a measly £1-2bn in a normal year. This is less than one per cent of our overseas business.[...]

As a means of creating jobs and economic wellbeing, the UK defence industry is an incredibly inefficient way to spend money. As a means of putting huge rewards at the disposal of cynical business interests, often foreign-based ones, it is excellent. Anyone who doubts the latter should recall the history of BAE Systems plc, the only remaining UK-headquarted major arms company and owner of the vast bulk of the UK defence sector. The firm has not ploughed its decades of huge disposable incomes into Britain: instead it has let go the great majority of its former workforce here, closed factories up and down the land, and sunk the cash into other countries - particularly the USA.

The defence industry is a parasite wrapped in patriotic lies. There's talented people involved. Shame they're pissing their time away.
