Dall Estate, on the banks of Loch Rannoch/Loch Raineach, is planning to build an (along with Development Planning Partnership) exclusive, members-only resort on the shores of the loch.
This resort will be for the ultra-rich only, with a planned joining fee of £2,000,000. It will prevent access by the general public to this beautiful part of Scotland, and also require the destruction of the woodland surrounding the area.
Even without the deforestation, the figures involved are absolutely astounding (from The Scotsman; http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/latestnews/13bn-Highland-playground-for-...):
"£1.3bn
The total cost of the Dall Estate development
98
luxury houses to be built, each at a cost of £1 million
104
luxury hotel suites at the hotel and lochside "Broch" development
2
championship-style golf courses to be laid out within the estate
£2m
The initial membership fee
£500,000
The cost of the annual fees
£6,000
The cost per person per night for most suites in the lochside hotel"
The Black Wood of Rannoch, which borders the Dall Estate, is a remnant of the ancient Caledonian Forest, and is an SSSI. It is home to capercaillie, red squirrels, and pine martens, among other species (http://www.rannoch.net/Black%20Wood.htm)
This development would serve no-one but the inconceivably rich, and would go against Scotland's historical right of access to the countryside, and be a slap in the face to the thousands of Scots who earn less than £25,000 a year, or about 4.2 nights at the proposed hotel.
Write to your MPs, MSPs, councillors, and anyone else of use, and ask them to speak out against this insane plan. Opposing it is in the interest of the vast majority of Scottish people, the landscape, and the ecosystem of the region.
