Three people kill themselves after failing asylum case

On sunday morning three people decided to jump out of their 15-storey flat. They had recently been told they would not be able to stay in Scotland following the failure of their asylum case.

Reports from other asylum seekers living in the same flat block have stated:

1. That the home office were knocking on the door of the flat when the people decided to end their lives.
2. That the firday before the incident the police had told them to leave their house making them homless
3. That the idea of returning to thier home counry terrorfied them.
4.That around their bodies where printed letters stating
WE WANT OUR FREEDOM
BELEIVE US
WE HAVE DIED FOR OUR FREEDOM

the home office deny any involvement and deny they were there
the YMCA will not give their names or nationality
the staff at Peterhill drive Red Road have told asylam seekers if they talk to the press they will be kicked out.

Everyday the home office makes many people's lives hell. It puts already vunurable people in horric conditions of stress paranoia and depression. It tears apart families and destroys lives.

Come and demonstrate tomorow outside FESTIVAL COURT 11.30am.

Bring your drums your voices and your passion!!

These people have come to us for help and we will not let them be treated this way

Join the Protest outside the Home Office in memory of the three people who died in Red Road on Sunday

Tuesday 9th March
11.00 outside the Home Office reporting centre on Brand Street

Residents of Red Road have asked the Unity Centre for help with a demonstration outside the Home Office on Tuesday 9th March in memory of the three people who fell to their death on Sunday monring from one of the tower blocks in Red Road.

The three people, a woman and two men, who died are thought to have lived in Red Road for two months.

It is difficult to understand why it has taken the police more than 24 hours to identify the three people as all asylum seekers are repeatedly asked to give thier finger-prints by the Home Office and their landlords, the YMCA, should be able to tell the police who was living in the flat at the time.

Neighbours have told Unity that Strathclyde police visited the people's flat on the 15th floor last Friday to tell them that their asylum case had been refused and that they would have to leave the flat. In our experience the police only come to the door of a refused asylum seeker at the request of the landlord after the family have refused to leave their accommodation. So far, the YMCA who were landlords for the three are refusing to comment to the media.

At the moment, the Home Office are denying any involvement however it has been known for asylum seekers to be so desperate that they jump from their windows if they think they are about be detained in a dawn raid by the Home Office's Enforcement Team. Neighbours have said that they thought the Home Office had been there on Sunday morning when the three jumped.

Re: Three people kill themselves after failing asylum case

30 residents of the Red Road flats laid flowers and lit candles outside 63 Petershill Drive this evening in memory of the three people who jumped to their deaths yesterday. They have asked for people to come at 6pm to Petershill drive with banners demanding freedom and safety for all asylum seekers.
Unity is still calling for a protest outside the Home Office at 11 am tomorrow.

In another matter, an official complaint has been made to the police against a guard at Dungavel detention centre who hit a 5 year old child, on of two twins detained last week with their mother.

Very sad. I wonder if the bigots of the Daily Mail are pleased? Our lives would improve markedly if tabloid papers and especially the likes of the DM and Sun could be 'taken' out of circulation. Here's hoping that the web puts them out of business.

Re: Three people kill themselves after failing asylum case

Whats interesting about this tragedy is that initial reports about the deaths of the russians, is that they were ALL found with their hands and feet bound and tied. Why would someone suicidal go to the trouble of going to all that effort to tie their OWN HANDS AND FEET just to jump off a building?

Also why has there been no follow up reporting or investigation into the isse that the man claimed to be an ex member of the Russian secret security service? And that he was telling anyone that would listen that in the weeks up to his death he was being exposed to psychotronic weaponry (possibly UK PSYOPs) aka microwave weaponry that was so prevalent at clapham Common in the 80's.

What this murder of these tragic Russians shows is that MI5 and MI6 are very "comfy" in Scotland now, since they took up residency in Scotland to corrupt the Scottish parliament with brainwashed Common Purpose members. And all the while the media scum at STV, BBC Scotland , the Daily Record and the American owned papers, The Glasgow Herald, and The Evening Times, pretend has if nothing happened.

God help Scotland.

No need for mad speculation about psyops, and other crazy conspiracy theories! He had also claimed that the canadian prime minister was plotting to kill the queen. I dont think you can take the mans claims at face value - it seems he was mentally unwell, with paranoid delusions. Im not surprised that there are mental health problems among asylum seekers - its a barbaric system.

Open letter to YMCA Glasgow from PAIH

There are some more grounded and pressing questions to be answered, as laid out in this letter. (Attached & text below)

Last night, while attending a candlelit vigil in memory of the Serkhi family alongside over 200 residents of the Red road flats, myself and representatives from the Scottish Afghan Association, Glasgow Campaign to Welcome Refugees were approached by a young Afghan man, Saeed.
He explained that he had left his YMCA flat on the 21st floor to join the other residents at the vigil. After about an hour, he returned to the flat whereupon he found that his room completely cleared of his belongings and was told by the YMCA staff cleaning out his room that his stuff was gone and he couldn’t return to the flat because the room was “for someone else” He asked us for help and was clearly distressed. When we were approached by the young man, a crowd of people gathered round around 25 to 30 who were clearly distressed and upset and angry for the young man. There was a small police presence of around three officers and we were in a potentially flammatory situation.
We took him aside and went with him to his flat. It was empty as if he had never been there. The cleaners hoover and cleaning materials were in the flat. He looked in cupboards, drawers, all his things were gone. We witnessed this first hand and were quite shocked and went with him to speak to your staff at reception. Saeed was casually told that his belongings were in the bin. Saeed was stood before us at eight o clock in the evening with a set of keys he could no longer use, the clothes he was wearing, and a letter from the YMCA telling him to leave. All his papers and personal belongings were ‘probably in the bin’. He had no money, papers, clothes and no means to support himself. This man was treated worse than an animal. For someone to just come into his flat and throw out all his personal belongings while he steps out for a few minutes displays a complete lack of respect, compassion or humanity, and particularly at such a sensitive time in the Red Road community.
It is my understanding that Strathclyde Police deliberately reduced the numbers of police officers to ease tensions within the community and particularly amongst vulnerable people in the depths of despair about their asylum cases. If this is the YMCA’s standard practice when treating asylum seekers, then it is nothing short of flammatory to the Red road community and a disgrace to civilized society. On a separate note, we would be grateful to know the following:
1. What level of cooperation does the YMCA afford to the UKBA enforcement removal team seeking to remove asylum seekers from the YMCA flats?
2. How much money does the YMCA receive per asylum seeker for its UKBA contract at the Red Road flats?
3. We suspect many asylum seekers are being driven to desperation by the combination of inhumane practices being perpetrated by the UKBA and the YMCA to the point they have said firsthand that they fully understand why the Serkhi family threw themselves from the 15th floor of one of your flats. Will the YMCA be evicting any more asylum seekers during this troubled time at the Red Road when so many people are in the depths of despair and hopelessness?
I would be extremely grateful for an immediate response.
