UK Armed forces day 2010 will be celebrated in Edinburgh on Saturday the 26th June. This is a statist celebration of militarism and attempt to make the military seem like a more benign institution and increase support for the ongoing conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. It will also be used as an oppurtunity to callously recruit young people without job prospects into the military.
There will be a military parade starting from the Castle Esplanade at 12:30pm marching down the High Street, going down Cockburn Street and Ending at the Mound.
The bigger problem is what will be happening at the Ross Bandstand afterwards from 2pm onwards. There will be paintballing and an inflatable assault course and military recruiters actively presenting a respectable and benign facade to young people without job prospects. With military recruitment at a low it is important that we disrupt the efforts of the cold-hearted recruiters to stop young people throwing away their lives for the sake of state and capital.
