Roadshow raises awareness about Midlothian Council's destructive 'development' plans

A community roadshow was held between the end of July and August 10th to raise awareness about Midlothian Council's destructive plans for 'development', which involve the expansion of biotech facilities, building on greenbelt land and the destruction of ancient woodland.
The roadshow setup on pavement provides information about the council's plans, which locals viewing.
The roadshow was started by people involved with Bilston Glen anti-road protest site, which is one area of ancient woodland that is due to be destroyed if Midlothian Council's plans go ahead. The roadshow travelled around Midlothian to provide locals with information about the proposed plans and to explain how people could object to the plans. Many locals said that they had been unaware of the extent of the plans for 'development' and that they did not realise that they only had until August 10th to raise their objections. Many locals also felt that the council had provided inadequate information about their plans and that the council's objection forms were deliberately confusing. On August 10th, the final day that objections could be raised, the roadshow reached its climax with a colourful procession through Dalkeith, accompanied by sounds of drums and an accordian. The procession ended inside the council building, where a petition and objection forms were presented to a representative from the council.
