Hasan has been in detention for the last four months and has a removal flight – TK1980 tomorrow at 11.45 from Heathrow to Istanbul, Turkey. We urgently need people to fax or phone Turkish Airlines and the Home Office to stop this young man being returned to Turkey. More details are below: Hasan is only 22 years old. He tried to claim asylum in the UK in March 2001 when he was only 17. His case was refused and he was removed back to Turkey in January 2005. On return to Turkey, Hasan was continually beaten up by neighbours and government officials. He was arrested and detained by the police and badly beaten on 3 occasions. He was shot in the head and body in April 2006, lost consciousness and never received any medical treatment. He returned to the UK on 2nd September 2006. Hasan was detained on 9th September and taken to Dungavel where he made a fresh claim for asylum. He suffers from short term memory loss, poor concentration, loss of hearing in his right ear and persistent headaches. There are still 6 shotgun pellets still lodged in his head. Hasan also suffers from post traumatic stress disorder and has flashbacks and nightmares. Whilst Hasan was in Dungavel he repeatedly asked to see a doctor and requested an x-ray and treatment for the bullets in his head. Whilst he was given limited access to a doctor, this doctor was unsympathetic and he was denied an x-ray or a full psychiatric evaluation or any means to have his claims substantiated. Hasan’s case was rejected on 16th September 2006 due to lack of medical evidence to support his claim and he was informed that this decision had no right of appeal. On 13th of October, a doctor working with the Unity Centre, visited Hasan in Dungavel and wrote a report on his physical and mental condition. This was submitted to the Home Office in support of his claim and rejected on 29th October. The treatment of this young man has been appalling. He has persistently been denied access to medical treatment and with it medical justice. Hasan has removal directions for Tuesday 22nd November, flying from Heathrow on Flight TK1980 to Istanbul. Hasan needs your help urgently. Please fax Turkish Airlines and ask them not to aid the Home Office in removing Hasan without offering him a chance to properly state his case with access to full medical reports and x-rays.
