ATH Resources is Scotland’s second largest opencast operator with mines in Ayrshire, Dumfires and Galloway and Fife. It has been struggling for some time, but last week its share price was halved after announcing it was in talks with the bank over its loans. ATH have scaled back their current mine plans in an effort to keep the company afloat because of drops in coal prices, geological issues and a £1.1 million carbon credit bill. Meanwhile, two dump trucks worth £120,000 each have been stolen from its Muir Dean site in Fife and driven to Northumberland where they appear to have disappeared. Its been a bad month for beleaguered ATH!
