May Day 2007 - Glasgow, Tues May 1

Plans are afoot for the annual celebration of May Day in Glasgow city centre on Tuesday May 1st. Meet-up at 12 noon, Buchanan St Underground.

In addition to the traditional mobile street reclaiming (which has attracted heavy police presence last 2 years) there are plans for taking a wee bit of street all day, in a non-confrontational way. The aim of this is to provide a space, a centre of attraction, to play music, display banners, distribute information, talk to passers-by without (hopefully) being surrounded by hunners of polis and herded through the streets. Of course, this does not preclude anyone from also touring the streets in a mobile reclaim the streets stylee. So, if you have an issue, campaign, etc that you want to highlight on May Day (e.g. Faslane 365, Jam74 outreach?), bring your banners, flags, placards, music, drums, fliers, newsheets, ladders, gaffa tape, megaphone, cable ties, rope, bicycle, shopping trolley, kitchen sink, and anything else you would like to find there. And if anyone else is planning any sort of sound system, get in touch so we can at least have an idea of what sounds will be there, and better still coordinate. See you on the streets. Lets DO SOMETHING this year!! instead of bein paraded like cattle to the park to listen to sounds. break the lines, TAKE THE STRRETS, flash mobs etc Go mental- tis international day of civil disobedience- be creative. Show london how it's done.

This year we need to take control, instead of being marched through the emptiest places in Glasgow by the police. If we just sit down or stay in one place every time they try and move us somewhere we dont want to go they will learn that this is our day.

if caught in police pen again stretch it out - those at back slow down while those at front speed up - at key points as cops get pen to move let it go for a minute then sit down and have a picnic - or everyone turn and face the other way or many diferent ways - organise this with your affinity groups to show the cops they are not in control - as cop line stretches get out of pen and go and do something autonomously - they can't be everywhere (unlike ourselves)
