Edinburgh : Photos of demo against Caltongate Development

Today 6th February around 100 people protested at the City of Edinburgh Council meeting due to consider the £300 million Caltongate Development planned for Edinburgh’s Old Town. Demonstrators condemned the plans by developer Mountgrange to demolish 18 people's homes and listed buildings in the Canongate, on the Royal Mile. An alternative community plan for the area has so far been rejected by the Council in favour of the big business proposal, but today speaker Catriona Grant emphasised the community would continue their struggle no matter what the Council decided today. Full report to follow. Comments and contributions especially welcomed from people involved in the campaign and people living in the area. After 8 hours of meetings, the councillors have still not worked through all of Mountgranges proposals, which number about 10 in total. One proposal has been passed, that of some wooden fronted flats, and the proposal for the tenements to be knocked through to provide access to the rest of the developments has been put to one side so that councilors can be provided more information. The meeting may continue for hours more, or most likely adjourn until another day.

regardless of how long it takes councilors to come to a conclusion the result will be the same, espesialy considering the vast majority of councilors are money grabbing greasy palmed scum, they seem to put money before heritage and the welfare of the comunity ,i hope resistance to this hideous development grows in intensity despite the councils decisions.
