Biofuel bannerdrop in Glasgow

Protesters against biofuels dropped a banner at Charing Cross today, to draw attention to the use of food to make petrol.

Biofuels are responsible for contributing to CO2 emissions, clearing rainforest and displacing subsistence farmers, and lead to higher food prices, causing riots in Haiti and many other parts of the world. Turning food into fuel for cars is burning food which the world needs to feed its population, yet today a new law came into force that petrol must contain 2.5% biofuel, with this percentage rising over years. Hungry people are being sacrificed on the altar of the holy automobile. http://www.biofuelwatch.org.uk

Deforestation&Biofuel taking crop space is bad hemp& microalgae dont take away from food,produce high yields, increase nutrients in soil& diet & dont need fertilsers, pesticides etc. Boeing doing good with algae in Safrica dor once,hemp needs making easier to grow!!!!!!

Agree microalgae are promising (but a little over-hyped). But where does hemp grow if not on arable land?

I wonder if hemp would be seen as such a wonder substance if hippies didn't smoke it?

'hemp' here refers to industrial cannabis which has no fun effects, but technically the term 'hemp' refers to the whole species which includes the fun one! they use industrial cannabis for rope, clothing, paper.... but it doesn't get you high! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemp :)
