The Audacity of Hype! Not since Henry Kissinger was given "the Peace Prize" in 1973 has the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize involved such a sad and tragic irony. Between now and delivering his "Peace" Prize acceptance speech, Obama will be sending drones to bomb mostly collaterally innocent people every week (in their homes, marketplaces, villages, and even wedding parties). He will be continuing to operate George 'Dubya' Bush's practically beyond-the-law, rendition-torture gulags (notoriously, Gitmo & Bagram). He will be expanding the technological advancements, types and potential "usability" of U.S. nuclear weapons (while supposedly also being awarded "for his attempts to curb nuclear proliferation"). And, he will be, upon their every request, militarily resupplying a racist apartheid state (Israel) with cumulatively billions of dollars worth of cluster, DIME and phosphorus bombs, no matter how many fleeing families upon whom that state will use those execrable terror weapons. The Nobel Peace Committee must still be high on the 'Obamalade' to make such a blatant mockery of what the Nobel prize for peace(!) should stand for. Or, should they now call it the Nobel "Peace Is War" Prize? [ --JA]

RNAD Coulport was blockaded this morning resulting in four arrests.

This morning three people from Faslane Peace Camp and three members of Trident Ploughshares blockaded the main gate at RNAD Coulport as the day shift arrived for work. Using multi-layered lock on tubes of plastic, steel and washing line they effectively stopped all traffic entering the gate for three hours. The four blockaders were all charged with “Breach of the peace”. An attempt to also obstruct Construction Gate was prevented by the presence of MoD police who said they were waiting for the end of their shift.

 Coulport is the facility for storing UK’s Trident nuclear warhead in bunkers dug into the hillside, on the side of Loch Long. The site of RNAD Coulport was formerly occupied by the village of Coulport and “Kibble Palace” the large Victorian greenhouse now removed to the Botanic Gardens in Glasgow. The village was also one end of the ferry to Ardentinny on the opposite shore.

The sixth of August 1945 was the day that the first atomic bomb was used on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Just three days later on August 9th the city of Nagasaki was bombed.

The Hiroshima bomb killed around 140,000 people while the second bomb on Nagasaki killed around 80,000.

There were a total of 11 events in Scotland to mark the 64th anniversary of the use of this terrible weapon. In Edinburgh there was a gathering at the foot of the Mound when the several dozen assembled held placards and read anti-war poems and there were anti-war songs from Penny.

The group sought to express its opposition to Israel’s ongoing aggression in Gaza which has already killed more than 800 people, a third of which are children. (Note: according to the latest report there are now 1,300 Palestinians killed, including 410 children and 100 women. Another 5,300 people were wounded. The statistics bureau reported 4,100 homes totally destroyed and 17,000 others damaged. For three weeks, Israeli bombs and rockets have pounded the Gaza strip placing almost 1.5 million fearing for their lives and have shunned initiatives by the international community to put an end to the attacks. “We want to drive home the point that no country and no people should tolerate Israel’s barbarity,” said Atty Corazon Fabros, one of the group’s spokespersons. “Israel is guilty of war crimes and we should not have diplomatic relations with criminals,” she added. “The world has to sanction and isolate Israel otherwise its mass murder of the Palestinians will continue.” Israel, the group says, is guilty of violations of international law such as collective punishment, targeting of civilians, and disproportionate military response. “The embassy should only be re-opened and diplomatic ties should only be restored once Israel complies with international law,” said Fabros.

Despite the tremendous efforts of the Communist Party in the Philippines to destabilize the government, its popularity is at its lowest. The Party is exerting all its best to mobilize its front organizations by using them in staging series of rallies against the government in order to create a scenario that will bring down the country’s economy to the lowest level. As hard as they tried, turn out was just a mere handful of deceived people, oftentimes even less than 50 heads joined their programmed activities. This only proves to show that majority of the people are now tired of their propaganda and are prepared to just enjoy peace and harmony under a true democracy. The masses have discovered that the communists are just using their so called “democracy” to destroy the genuine democracy. The people now are able to discern that what the communist insurgents are offering is just but a sham democracy. The people have also known that these rascals are likewise using the church to attain their evil ultimate goal of destroying the government, a legitimate institution established by God. It was also unveiled to the public that the communists have even infiltrated the government one way or the other to destroy the government. The people are now fed up with the "Wolves' in Sheep’s Clothing" who represent the opportunistic communist terrorists of the Communist Party of the Philippines and it's shield, the National Democratic Front. The people are witnessing the communists malicious intent, that of superficially support human rights but in reality they are maintaining an armed terrorist/cannibalistic component, the New Peoples Army (NPA) that is bent to sabotage, thievery and mass murder of all those that oppose the communist way of life. The groups that support them are their legal fronts: BAYAN MUNA, GABRIELA, ANAKPAWIS, KMU, ALLIANCE OF CONCERNED TEACHERS, ANAKBAYAN, MIGRANTE, COURAGE, KARAPATAN and other seemingly innocent advocacy groups that are undoubtedly secretly supporting the opportunistic communist terrorists of the New Peoples Army. The communists do not believe in parliamentary struggle.
