Zapatistas reclaim “Mother Earth”

On 6th February 230 civilian Zapatistas took part in an action to retake control of their “reclaimed lands” at Bolon Ajaw, Chiapas, Mexico, which had been invaded and taken over since 20 January by the paramilitary group OPDDIC, report the human rights group Fray Bartolome de Las Casas. The 25 Zapatista families of Bolon Ajaw, part of autonomous municipality Comandanta Ramona, were given solidarity by Zapatistas from further afield in Chiapas.

Scottish Protest Against Clearances of Migrant Camps in Calais

In response to the shocking events seen in Calais on Tuesday 22 Sept, where police moved in to forcibly remove migrants from their make-shift shelters, and an international call-out for solidarity, a protest was held at the French Consulate, Randolf Crescent, Edinburgh, yesterday.

SOLIDARITY APPEAL - FROM MEXICO TO SCOTLAND

 Ruben Valencia Nunez from Oaxaca, southern Mexico spoke in Glasgow and Edinburgh in late July as part of a European tour campaigning against the criminalisation of social movements in Mexico. He urged solidarity with the people of Oaxaca who are resisting many megaprojects such as mines and dams. Several projects are run by European companies, including by Scottish Power's owners, Spanish company Iberdrola.

 Please act now. We are calling for phone and email blockades of the French Embassy in London; Phil Woolas, UK Immigration Minister; the French Interior Ministry. We are calling for these targets as the UK Border starts in Calais – both the French and British states are implicitly involved in any attacks (legal or otherwise) that are launched against migrants in Calais.
