Bored of hearing about the marriages of politicians? Don’t care so much about where the partners of party leaders buy their clothes from?
But do you care about:

• How public service cuts will impact on women?
• How the parties will address trafficking
• How the parties will ensure that all women experiencing domestic abuse and sexual violence receive the support they deserve?
• How the parties will ensure that human rights obligations are upheld

Then come to Edinburgh South General Election Hustings!
Organised by EFN and EUFS this event will give you the chance to ask the candidates from your area questions that REALLY matter.

Next discussion and Feminist Day School

The Next discussion group will be part of the wonderful Feminist Day School being organised by the Edinburgh University Feminists on Sunday the 7th of March in Teviot Union. More information about the whole event can be found here http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=321813913901. Our contribution will be at 17.30, we’ll be having a discussion about the future of feminism in Edinburgh and beyond. This venue is wheelchair accessible but it can be a bit hard to find so you may have to ask. Children are welcome as always, and for this month our discussion will not be women only, so anyone welcome.  If you aren’t a student then you will need photo id to get in.

Taught by the Pen

The Muslim Women’s Association of Edinburgh in association with Radio Ramadan Edinburgh are  having a book festival based at the lovely MacDonald Road Library!  Personally I’m very excited – I remember reading Elisabeth Laird’s book Kiss the Dust about an Iraqi Kurdish girl when I was about ten, and loving it!  Will also be going to Major Gordon Corrigan’s talk which also looks really interesting!

So if anyone wants to come along with me, let me know!

February discussion Group

The next discussion group will be on the 7th of February from 3-5 in Favorit on Teviot Place (we’ll be back to the McDonald Road Library in March!). As always this is a discussion group for self-identifying women only and children are welcome.  Favorit has no steps to get into it but the door is quite heavy so if you think you’ll need any help getting in then please email us.  If there are any other concerns or worries you have about coming then please email us also!

Given that its February the topic will be valentines day.  A space to have a think about chivalry and romance, love as a consumer product, what valentines day means, and anything else that comes to mind under that topic.  Be great to see you there!

Update on January

Our next discussion group will actually be in Favorit on Teviot Place as the library is shut.  If you have concerns about access or are worried that you won’t be able to find us then just email at

January Discussion Group

The next discussion group will be on the 3rd of Januaryfrom 3-5 in the McDonald Road Library.  As always this is a discussion group for self-identifying women only and children are welcome.  The McDonald Road Library is accessible (ramps, ground floor meeting, disabled parking) but if you need more information on accessiblily then just get in touch.

Its the start of a new year and we know a lot of people won’t be around but if you are then please join us for some discussion about how the last year was for you personally and for the feminist movement and for what we all hope for and want to do in 2010.

EWRASAC Fundraiser

Short notice I know but tomorrow night there is a fundraiser for Edinburgh Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre at Boda on Leith Walk.  Its a musical pub quiz, starts at 8.30, costs £5 per team.  It’d be really great if people could come along and suppor this!

Also, before hand at 6 on Bristo Square, the university feminists have organised a vigil to start off the 16 days of activism against gender based violence.  If you fancy coming along a few of us will go straight from their to Boda.

Reclaim the Night planning meetings

The next planning meeting will be on Tuesday the 24th (ie this coming Tuesday) at 6pm in the Lounge Room in Teviot Union.  There is wheelchair access.  Don’t worry if you aren’t a student as there will be someone hanging around to sign you in.  Please do come along if you’re interested, we’re very non-scary!  If you have any questions or concerns then email EdinburghRTN2008@googlemail.com
